Volunteer Program

- About the volunteer program:
- This project was started in 2001 to match the talents and interests of members of the GLBT community with the needs of the community center. The endeavors of UTSCC are constantly evolving and growing, requiring more and more active involvement from the community.

- Schedule at the center:
- No scheduled meetings.

- Volunteer Positions Available

- Library:
- Data entry -- assist with entering materials from archives into the database. Hours are flexible (during library operating hours) to fit any schedule.
- Circulation staff -- assist patrons in finding and checking out materials, processing registrations and answering reference questions.

- Building Maintenance:
- Cleaning crew -- weekly sweep or mop floors, dust library shelves, scrub restrooms.
- Outdoor crew -- mow lawn in summer and shovel walks in winter, and pick up litter.
- Plow volunteer -- plow parking area after snowfalls.
- Repairs and improvements -- need talented painters, electricians, carpenters.
- Work party crew -- talented and non-talented but hardworking people for special projects.

- Rainbow Reader:
- Advertising sales -- seek out new advertisers and maintain old advertisers, verify and update continuing ads.
- Advertising layout -- design ads for advertisers
- Distribution -- deliver copies of the newspaper to the various distribution points: bars, bookstores, GLBT-friendly services.
- Writing -- write articles for the newspaper: commentary, local news, and research on social issues.

- Gay/Lesbian Hotline:
- Helpline staff -- after training, answer phones providing information, referral and crisis intervention and collecting data on anti-GLBT violence and harassment.
