About the Social Action Committee:

In 1999, UTSCC developed a Social Action Committee to work on social and political issues of importance to the GLBT community.

 

The current focus of the committee is twofold.  First, to see that the addition of sexual orientation to the Fort Wayne civil code remains on the books and is strengthened.  Second, to work with a state coalition led by Justice, Inc. to get sexual orientation added to the state Civil Rights Code.

 

The same work will also be done through the GLBT Coordinating Committee which represents sixteen local organizations -- gay and allies. The current (March 2003) members of the GLBT Coordinating Committee are:  Fort Wayne Feminists; Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Association (IPFW); Indiana National Organization for Women - Fort Wayne Area; Indiana Stonewall Democrats - Northeast; Lesbians of African Descent; Midwest Mirth and Girth; Outspoken; United Sexualities (IPFW); Up The Stairs Community Center; Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays - Fort Wayne; Americans With Disabilities; Center for Non-Violence; Globalization: Peace Study Group; Sophia's Portico; Fort Wayne Women's Bureau; Women's Studies (IPFW); and Justice, Inc.     Hosts:  Fred Hefter and Cat Voors.

 

Anyone interested in social and/or political action is welcome to participate in the Social Action Committee.
