- About the Community AIDS Action Team:
-
The primary concern for CAAT is providing education for the Fort Wayne community on HIV and AIDS. Scheduled open forums are held at any location, including the community center. "Safe Sex Parties" can be held at persons' homes, providing HIV/AIDS information and "safe sex" techniques for groups of 1 to 100 people. "HIV-AIDS Awareness in the Workplace" programs are available for area businesses to offer their employees.
-
- CAAT participates in the monthly Bar Education Night (Project BEN) sponsored by the Allen County Health Department; the event is held the first Wednesday of every month from 7 to 9 p.m. at the After Dark Night Club. And CAAT is involved in the local Annual AIDS Walk and takes part in World AIDS Day activities.
-
- The program is funded by an annual benefit held at the After Dark Night Club. This event is sponsored by Leo Vodde, the club's owner, and all profits made at the benefit by After Dark, its employees and volunteers go to the CAAT project for that night.
-
- Individuals can volunteer for a variety of activities with CAAT, including stuffing "Lover Letters" (safe sex kits), fundraising, phone work and facilitating its parties and programs.
